Città metropolitana of Milan

The Major of Città metropolitana is the Major of Milan with a five-year mandate.

He summons and presides over the metropolitan Council, oversees the operation of services and offices and the implementation of council acts. 
The metropolitan Council is elected by the Majors of the 134 Municipalities belonging to the metropolitan area of Milan.

The Council is responsible for fundamental acts regarding guidelines, political and administrative controls and planning, and the approval of related financial plans. As a rule, the Council's meetings are open to the public.

The Council operates through the Council Commissions.  Members are elected internally based on the proportional representation of political parties.
Sessions of the Council and Commissions are generally open to the public.
